Is Banner Advertising Effective?
On my last article I talked about traffic techniques in general. For this article I am going to drill down and get specific with each technique. In terms of banner advertising, a banner ad is basically a graphic which has your link embedded in it. This graphic is placed on a site that has traffic that is relevant to what you are advertising. At least that is the hope.
The click through rates can be low and they normally break down as follows. The more relevant your ad is to the traffic on that site the higher the click through, which makes sense.
What is also relevant to mention here is the actual placement of your banner ad on the advertising website. Ads on the right near the scroll bar have been known to produce higher click through rates. A banner placed below midway down the page gets more click through rates than on the top. This kind of made sense to me because at this point the visitor has read some information and may be more open to an offer.
Another variable to take into consideration is the product being offered. Various products get different click through rates. No one size fits all when it comes to banner advertising.
Some say that banner advertising click through rates have dropped to about .39%. With that said some banners on some sites get anywhere from .5% to 7%.
So what does all this mean? It pretty much boils down to math. How much is a customer worth to you? How long will this customer be apart of your sales cycle. Put another way what is the life time value of this customer?
My thoughts are this. I tested it once and was not happy with my results. Then I never tested it again. However I didn't want to devote time to it. If you are willing to do so you may be able to find profitable campaigns. Test it for yourself and see what will work for you.
So if you are serious take a look at the big picture. Working together solves problems, if you are an affiliate and are passionate about this business and want to work with others to succeed then select one of the links below.
