Real Estate Marketing - The Big Advertising Lie
If you have ever done any advertising, then you have at one time or another surely been disappointed with the results. Most of the time you run an advertisement, you don't get the results you had hoped for. Maybe your expectations are too high. Or maybe you are just being lied to.
Most real estate agents are not very good marketers; they are very good at real estate. This enables them to take very good care of a client once they actually get one. The problem with most agents is that they don't know how to get the clients. They know they need to market but they don't know how. So who do you turn to? Your advertising rep. They know advertising, right? Not necessarily.
You see advertising representatives are sales people usually working on a commission. Yes they want your ad to be successful. When it is you will spend more money with them and do more advertising. But the truth of the matter is that most of the ads you run don't produce the results you had hoped for. When you turn to your advertising person for help, what do they always say? You need to run the ad more.
And while it makes no sense at all, we all tend to take their advice because we don't know what else to do. Why would you continue to run an ad that didn't produce results for you? Because the rep told you to? But think about whom that benefits. If you are paying for an ad that the rep gets a commission on, and the ad doesn't even make you enough money to pay for itself, who comes out ahead? You? Or the rep?
This type of thinking originates in the big ad agencies that use a method called "C&R." Which stands for creativity and repetition. It's what big companies do because they can afford to. But you can't. So stop falling for the big advertising lie. If your ad doesn't get response, then don't run it again without changing something in it. Keep changing it until you start to get results, but never run an unproductive ad more than once.
