How Does Banner Advertising Stack Up To Other Forms Of Advertising
In this article I would like to compare banner advertising
to other forms of advertising. Many years ago banner
advertising was a very popular form of advertising. As I
remember if you visited a website then you would see flashy
banners all over the place. However, this did not last long
as the banners became ineffective and people started
ignoring them. If you got a click through rate of 0.5% you
would be very lucky.
I think that it is for this reason banner adverts are not
that popular even today. Let us look at the other forms of
media and why they may be a better option than banner
advertising.
In my opinion the 4 most popular forms of advertising are
the following:
1) Search Engine Positioning
This generates highly targeted leads. Unfortunately it
requires a lot of work to get a website to rank well in the
search engines. So for people new to internet marketing
this may be too complicated. One of the main things that
you need to do to get a website to rank well in the search
engines is that you need to have many quality links to your
website. This is a very tedious process.
2) Email Marketing
This is a very good way to advertise your business. Once
you place your solo advert in a targeted ezine you will
start receiving targeted traffic to your website. The only
disadvantage is that with the recent increase in spam it is
becoming more difficult to get people to open your emails.
3) Ppc Advertising
This type of advertising is a really quick way to get very
targeted traffic to your website. Unfortunately with the
increase in competition it is becoming very difficult to
make a profit as the price per click has become prohibitive
for competitive search terms.
4) Article Marketing
This is one of the newer forms of marketing. It is really
popular because it is a free and very cheap way for anybody
to start their internet business. The big disadvantage with
this method is that takes a lot of time to write articles.
Overall I personally do feel that the ways listed above are
much better ways to promote your business. However,
internet millionaire Ryan Deiss once revealed that his most
profitable advertising is using banners. The way he does
this is that he finds sites suitable for his products and
then negotiates banner advertising well below the premium
rates you would be paying with advertising networks
individually with the site owner.
